Town Manager’s Vision for 2016

This year will bring changes in the landscape of municipal government. We are concurrently constructing a new fire station in North Randolph, renovating and constructing an addition to the police station, and renovating the Turner Free Library.
The North Randolph Fire Station is being constructed directly adjacent to the existing station. We will still maintain two stations to best serve the public. Our apparatus will be deployed in a manner that better serves the public, with our ladder moving north to match the increased call volume from the territory. The new state-of-the art station will also be an aesthetic centerpiece of the North Main Street corridor.
The police station will be expanded to better serve the public and to meet the changing needs of a 21st century professional department. A new lobby area will be more open and a public meeting room will provide better opportunities to communicate with the police department. Evidence and processing areas will be enhanced to meet the needs of a very active department.
The Turner Free Library is being renovated to meet its changing mission of providing more programming space and better technology. A new teen room will be created away from the quiet areas, providing more space for our young people. Additional programming space will be added to be meet the needs of all residents.
In addition, we will be requesting the funds to be a new intergenerational community center off Pleasant Street. The new structure will contain programming rooms for art, dance, music, cooking, games, gardening and much more. A new gymnasium and indoor walking track will provide recreational opportunities of all kinds for people all ages, interests, and abilities.
From an operational standpoint, my goal is to be the most responsive local government possible. Our use of technology such as See, Click Fix and our 21st Century Town Meeting platform aim to take government to the people. We have regularly maintained a “Top 10” rank in the See, Click, Fix system for responsiveness. We are now adding a new online permit system that allows homeowners and contractors to fill out and submit requests for permits and inspections online.
We will continue to support continued improvements in the Randolph School Department. Under the leadership of Superintendent Thomas Anderson, the future of our schools is very bright.
Economic development will be a major focus of the upcoming year. We have new developments planned for Pacella Park, Devine School and Pleasant Street, but we need to work to fill open spots at Sudbury Plaza, Burger King, Chase and Sons, and along Rt. 139. This is vital to our future.
2016 will be an exciting year in the town’s history and we hope you are a part of it.
