UPCOMING EVENTS:
FRIENDS Book Discussion Group -- Saturday,
February 20 at 2:00pm
Come join us for some great reading and lively conversation as
the next session of the FRIENDS Book Group discusses
"The Red Tent" by Anita Diamant.
In the "The Red Tent", author Anita Diamant uses rich storytelling to give a new perspective of female life in biblical society. Base upon a mention in Genesis of Jacob's daughter Dinah, Diamant gives an insider's look at the details of women's lives in biblical times and chronicle of their earthy stories and long-ignored histories. The 'red tent' is the place where women were sequestered during their cycles of birthing, menses, and illness. Skillfully interweaving biblical tales with her own characters, the author re-creates the life of Dinah providing an illuminating portrait of a courageous woman and the life she might have lived. Having sold over 250,000 copies, this is a tale of womanly strength, love, and wisdom.
