2009 REPORT OF THE CONSERVATION COMMISSION

During the year of 2009 the Conservation Commission has continued to work in the interest of the wetlands, rivers, ponds and other resource areas in the Town of Randolph.  The Conservation Commission would like to thank the Town Planner, Richard McCarthy and the Community Preservation Committee for their great work in adding to the conservation land of our Town with the addition of the Power’s Farm property.  The Conservation Commission hopes to continue with this trend and improve on the preservation and management of conservation land within our Town during the next year.

Eight (8) new applications were received and acted upon along with several from years past in 2009.  This reflects a slight increase over 2008.  The Conservation Commission has worked to establish templates and check list to help applicants better navigate the Wetlands Protection Act and Town Bylaws.

During 2009, Town Meeting Voted to accept the Non-Zoning Wetlands Bylaw amendment written and proposed by the Conservation Commission.  The Conservation Commission thanks Town Meeting for approving this amendment.  This Bylaw amendment was a comprehensive overhaul that has put Randolph on par with other communities throughout the Commonwealth.  The Bylaw will help the Conservation Commission better protect the resource areas within our Town and will also help in better defining the permitting process for work within buffer zones and resource areas.

This year the Conservation Commission also settled an ongoing law suite related to the development of land on Truelson Drive and Restarick Avenue.  The settlement included the conveyance of a piece of land to the Town as compensation for legal and other costs incurred.

In the interest of transparency and openness in government processes, the Conservation Commission has begun posting meeting agendas and minutes on our website at www.randolphconcom.com.  Please visit our website and please do not hesitate to contact us at randolphconcom@gmail.com with any questions or concerns.

Respectfully submitted,

Jesse Krawiec
Chairman
